Is there a way to disable advertising that uses sound? eg the "you have mail" intrusion

It is the "sponsored" advertising I refer to which not only puts me off the particular advertiser, I close the eBay link.

I should not be forced to disable my own sound because of this intrusion.

I use firefox as my browser and have their Ad Block in place and never see any sponsored advertising on eBay.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot.

It is, however, disappointing to have to use multiple browsers just to avoid virus like advertising. Oh well...
