Item not as described and seller not leaving feedback

Hi all

I am just a little annoyed and wondering if there is anything I can do at this point with a seller.

I bought an item from them that was meant to be a new jar that was air tight and water tight. I was the only bidder so got the lowest price possible.  The seller sent a bit of a rude/awkward email telling me it cost  $13 for him to post which made me feel like they wanted me to pay more, but I just ignored that since it was not my fault they didnt price properly or that the item didn't sell higher. Anyway the item arrived and it does not seem like it is new as it was very greasy and oily inside.  It also has a use by date on the bottom which makes it seem like it was a food jar since regular non used jars should have no used by date.  The seal on the lid is nicked and is not air or water tight as I soaked it in cool water to clean it and water is now stuck in the lid!

So i am not too happy with the quality of the item however since the cost of postage was too high i didnt think there was much point in trying to get a refund since I would probably have to post it back and that would cost more than i spent.  Despite the poor quality I still left positive feedback as they are new and felt bad however I wrote that the quality was not very good but that I was still happy since it was cheap and thank you.

Now the seller is not giving me feedback at all and I am feeling really annoyed with this.  The item is not what I wanted but have made do and given them positive but honest feedback.  I have sent them a message and they are ignoring it.  I wish there was a way to revise my feedback as they really deserved a more negative one but I was feeling kind.  I feel like this is just them being spiteful and seems very unfair that I paid for my item quickly and did my part well, and now i wont get any feedback when I am new so am  trying to build it up just because they dont like being told the item was crap.  I wish I had now opened a case about the item.  Is there anything I can do now or any recourse?  I know they dont have to leave feedback but it just seems very rude not to.

Sorry for the long post but just wanted to vent, any sugestions would be appreciated.

Why on earth would you leave them pos feedback and more to the point why would you think they would give you any?

Being new is no excuse for lying and deception. A decent seller, especially a new one, would have accepted they did the wrong thing and would have either paid for return post or have offered you a full or at least partial refund without returning.

You have now let them get away with it and think they can rip off future buyers. Nobody has to leave feedback and as it is of no use whatsoever to buyers many sellers don't leave it or leave it in bulk weeks later.

I totally agree with you on the need for sellers to be honest, there is no excuse for lying or tricky deception.

Regarding feedback, I like to get positive feedback and I am almost exclusively a buyer. I wouldn't say it is of no use, because buyers and sellers are not exclusively separate groups, a person can be both.

And even if most of the score is from buying, I still think people feel a little more secure buying from someone who has been around a while and looks reliable than from someone who has been on ebay 2 minutes. Mind you, we all have to start somewhere!

The timing of the feedback isn't that important though, you are right. If I were a seller of lots of items, I would probably be inclined to do it in bulk rather than after each sale.

With feedback these days, I try to be very honest and detailed, although I tend to give positive feedback and it would have to be dire for me to go into negative. I think honesty helps the next buyer who reads it.

But for this seller described, I would not have felt inclined to give them a positive feedback.

That is a Moconna coffee jar (except for the graphic of course).  We have plenty of them here if you want any more.  I can send you pics if you want confirmation.  However, I would charge exact postage as I wouldn't want to be out of pocket, and because they are glass there is always a risk of breakage.

You are right FB is not mandatory for either buyer or seller. It is becoming more and more common for FB not being left by either side of transactions lately. It can be very frustrating when you are trying to get your scores up I get that, however, perhaps the does seller does not feel good about the transcation either and backhanded positive that you left as FB.

I would move on to buying from more experienced ebayers and if FB is that important to you just check out whether the Sellers leave FB for their buyers before you bid or buy.

Good luck, hope you get your scores up soon !Smiley Happy

Well thanks everyone for the replies, i guess there is nothing that I can really do here but move on and learn from next time.

I do wish now that I had left neutral or negative feedback , I was just a bit afrad of being honest but next time I will make sure to be accurate.  I guess it is my fault for giving a positive when I shouldn't have.  Maybe I should have even opened a dispute.  Oh well I guess there is nothing I can do but avoid this seller from now on.  This is my first dissapointing transaction so I am feeling a little annoyed by the whole situation.

I think this may have been a joke posting like one I am bidding on now McDonalds cup. I am wondering if with the free listing people are putting up a whole heap of stuff and not really thinking about it someone buys will they be out of pocket for the costs involved in posting.

Maybe it was a joke, maybe they just went through the house looking to sell whatever they can.  The only comfort I get out of the situation is knowing they ended up losing more money than me!  I suppose that is karma for you :p.

I think they might have been listing things and making shill accounts or having friends buy it because they have been selling a whole bunch of silly things to brand new buyers for a couple of cents, so maybe this was just another thing to try and get their feedback up.

After all who buys a photo for 1 or 6 cents that can be found on google within seconds :S

well I think we maybe right I looked at there feedback again why would one person buy 2 of these SET OF 12 LIMITED EDITION FERRARI PROMOTIONAL PHOTOS IN HI REZ R.R.P $299.00. Then the person who bought them lives in the same area as them and only has two feedbacks both from this seller. The other thing that puzzles me is the seller gives the buyer feedback as a good seller. I think they might be working two accounts here.
