My account has been mistaken with another members account, how?

Hi I recently changed my ID and now I am receiving messages about items that I didn't win or did win,but it's not my account it's a member in Germany that has nearly the same ID as mine except I have a g in my ID and this person has a t in theirs as this is the only difference.

My question is how is it possible and has my account been hacked?

I'm surprised eBay allow ID names that are so similar - I thought they would be a bit more careful than that. As kopenhagen said, contact eBay directly.

Something dodgy is going on, ring ebay for sure.

What is hitting me in this case is that if a buyer wins an auction or commits to buy it now, all the info a seller needed would be right there in their account, surely.

If they wanted to message you, they would just click in there.

I've never heard of a seller having to go into a search and locate the buyer by typing in the name. It shouldn't matter if there are a dozen similar names, there should be no way any legitimate seller is getting it wrong. Hackers/scammers, at a guess.

Are these messages coming through the ebay message system or are they just coming to your email account? If the latter then they are probably phishing emails and if you have clicked on any links in any of them chenage your passwords at once and do a deep security scan using a couple of different programs (Housecall is a good one).  I would also change all passwords connected to Paypal, bank accounts and any other site that could lead to your financial information.
