Not sure of this...

Hi,

I bought an item here in Australia, I received that item and I am happy with it, but inside the parcel were Christian pamphlets....I am a little put out by this.

But I just wanted to know if this is against EBay policy?

I have received advertising for the sellers eBay seller page etc, but this is a first for me.

Now if it had been Islamic calls for a JIHAD against Australians would all the people saying "just forget it" still approve? Its still unsolicited propaganda.

Why waste your time making an issue of it?

Just throw them in the bin and move on.

I agree. Honestly, people just complain for the sake of complaining sometimes I'm sure of it.

OP, really? If you received junk mail in the regular post you didn't want, would you make such a fuss? Geez. Just bin it!

I agree with the OP - it's not on.  I am a Christian but I'd not be impressed to receive religious pamphlets with any purchases.

If I was happy with my purchase I'd say so...but I'd sure add a comment that I didn't appreciate the junk mail that came with it.  Sorry but I don't think it's trivial.  This is a practice that should be actively discouraged.  If buyers don't speak up, who knows what kinds of unwelcome pamphlets some sellers may decide to include with purchases.

Personally, I think it's pretty intolerant of a person to force their beliefs on a person who they don't know, and who may not even share their belief system. Especially since that person is a customer who is only interested in buying a product.

It's fine for people to have whatever they beliefs they have, but when they try to enforce those beliefs onto others, that's when it crosses the line imo. I'm not non-religious but I'd be pretty annoyed if I went to a clothing or book store and the person behind the counter started preaching to me as I was buying something. If it really upsets you OP, then feel free to give the seller whatever feedback you feel is necessary. Maybe they'll realize that using ebay to push their religious beliefs onto customers isn't such a good idea after all.

I agree. I would happily discuss my religious beliefs with anyone asking me, however, I wouldn't add religious pamphlets with my items unless I knew with certainty that they would be wanted or appreciated.

But I'd also add for those telling the OP to 'get over it and get a life', because they have raised the question about it I would say that your manners are worse than the seller including unsolicited religious material.  The OP has raised a legitimate question and this is what the discussion forums are for.

My 'I agree' was for silly_wallaby, not for the angry mob with flaming torches!

It may be best to contact ebay regarding this matter to find out if it is against any policies.

I agree that it is inappropriate to include material with purchases unrelated to the seller's business. I generally try to look at such gestures from the perspective of intent. I suspect the seller means well, so I would not be outraged by it. I often receive such pamphlets in my mail box, so I presume others do as well. Given this, the seller may not think there is anything wrong with what they are doing.

A polite email to the seller letting them know that you found it offensive/inapproriate etc and outlining the reasons why you felt that way would probably suffice.

Imagine how you come across. Bible bashing is a way for religious fanatics to impose their beliefs onto people. It's a serious matter so don't try to censor anything I say. I have received a religious pamphlet once and it is definitely annoying.

I consider buying on ebay as a non religious, non political, classless process and therefore don't want religion, politics or social class to enter into any transaction.

I live next door to an "exclusive" place of worship and those christians going there do more to turn me off religion than anything else and I have grown intolerant of anyone forcing their religious views on me.

Therefore I would neg the seller just for the leaflets.
