Hi E1,
When browsing search results for AS10D31 (Laptop Battery) and clicking Lowest Price plus postage it shows items for $18.11 AUD with free postage.
However after purchasing the item the eBay checkout throws in $20 for postage.
My eBay Purchase History page shows it as having free postage.
This is obviously a glitch on eBay`s end however live help was not interested in looking at getting it fixed (Iguess it means more fees however they wont get any fees out of this transaction as I am not paying).
Live help recommended to email the seller (which i did immediately before going to live help) and to wait for up to 72hrs for s response.
3 days? I really didnt expect this added delay.
Live help then recommended that I phone the seller so I pulled their contact info only to find that the sellers location is in China and they have a chinese phone number (I have no problem with ringing China as I am with TPG and I get 100 international minutes free) I do have a problem trying to talk 发货很快发货很快发货很快.
Anyhow, this is obviously a glitch however eBay have no intention of fixing it.
I will just buy one from one of the other sellers, there is one a bit further down the list that does not appear to be adding the postage charge (I guess i will only find out during checkout). It is a few dollars more expensive however at least i wont have to wait a few days before i can get this other sellers item sorted and then be able to actually pay for it.
I will ask this seller to cancel the transaction. If the seller is not interested in canceling the transaction i will keep screenshots of the search results page and also my Purchase History page where it shows free postage and eBay will/should/bloody better cancel the transaction.
I am getting a bit fed up with eBays false advertising policies.
I mean, look at how many items there are for iPad cover showing up as $1 in search results however when you go into the item there is a drop down box with other options and the only thing for $1 is a screen protector, the cover is now $14.99 !!! THATS FALSE ADVERTISING EBAY CONS.

Edited because I didn't read correctly.
Can you give us an item number for the item that you say lists as free postage then changes to $20.00 when you go to pay? are you sure the listing didn't say free domestic shipping? so if not in that country it will not be free.

Harley - the listing is using rates table so it depends on your postcode as to what the postage costs are. Item location is in Melbourne. Postage is free if you are based in Victoria or for me in WA it is showing as $20.00
I think what the OP is complaining about is that in a general search it comes up as free post and it is not until you click on the actual listing does the postage cost change depending on the buyers postcode.

Yes, it is a worry if the ebay system is doing that.
The person who posted this has thousands of transactions as both buyer/seller & is probably familiar with the system, so if he is being caught out, then probably anyone could be.
Ebay needs to make sure things are crystal clear and those drop down ads are misleading. Yous ee something on a scroll through and think something like -ah, there are some cake toppers on ebay for only a couple of dollars, I'll keep that in mind & then later when you look for them and actually open the ad you find the ones in the photo aren't the cheap ones at all, they are more like $15 or so.
Misleading and annoying.

Here is the item number 251359046748
Here is a link to the search results.
If eBay are now trying to calculate the prices for search results using buyers location they better use the right prices.

I'm in WA and I'm seeing free postage on the search page, but $20 postage in the listing.
It might be helpful if the listing on the search page said 'varies' (or something similar) instead of 'free', but when you click on the actual item the postage price is not hidden in any way.

The seller is costing themselves sales as anywhere that postage is over $12 the item could be postage via
the eBay 3kg satchel at $11.70
I stopped using the calculated postage option as it can be glitchy and cost sales to states were the postage is
to high with that method.
As for the "$1.00 items changing to a higher cost,eBay wont do nothing as most of those are by their
protected Chinese sellers,(they end up being a waste of time and there are now categories that I don't search
at all as there are to many of those listings).
The postage varying was a glitch that happened on Iphones only but seem to have "migrated" to all devices,(
so eBay must believe it's working to get extra sales).
I am getting a bit fed up with eBays false advertising policies.
That's getting to be one of the main thing they are known for,(add the scammers and scam buyers it doesn't
look good for them),

Too true Tazz.
Also, notice the seller has already received negs for charging $20 post when the search results show it as free post.
Glad I bought it from a different seller and didnt wait the advised 3 days for a reply. Looks like this turkey is hopeless at replying to emails too. I wouldnt be surprised if the item isnt even in Australia and I would have to wait weeks for the item. Pfft. This seller will be getting a neg from me if i dont get a reply soon.

Did you also notice the seller is actually in CHINA.
