The item I had bought a while ago has vanished from my account.
This happens rather fequently and has already caused me to move mostly to amazon.
Anyway, I need to open a case.
PayPal sends me to eBay.
Please advise.

Other members cannot see anything from the order number
When you say 'a while ago' how long ago?
You only have 30 days past the ETA to open a dispute
Have you changed the drop down menu in your purchase history to cover the period 'a while ago'
Do you check seller's feedback before buying?
Have you checked your emails/spam folder for any emails from eBay to say they have cancelled the order due to a dodgy seller account ?
You ask other members to advise you
Best advice I can give is to know buying basics

It is the buyers responsibility to keep an eye on what they purchase and if it does not arrive within 30 days of the last estimated date of delivery, to open a case for Item Not Received. If you do not do this, you only have yourself to blame for losing out on a refund.
As @sandy asked - how long ago did you purchase?
