Returning a fake speaker to Hong Kong seller *help!*

Hi all,

I recently bought a portable JBL speaker ($255) from Hong Kong on ebay, thinking it was legitimate as the listing photos showed the correct box and speaker. I received the item a few days later (even though estimated postage was 2 weeks more) and could immediately tell that the item was fake and counterfeit.

The box was similar to the listing but had no JBL branding anywhere and the manual had no branding. The item was shipped only in the items box, without a separate box or satchel. The speaker has the wrong sounds and weird buttons that are different to the original and match similar fakes I searched online.

I immediately contacted the seller and notified them and requested a return. First they they tried convincing me it was the 'asian JBL version' and everyone has it in Asia. Then the seller tried to give me a partial refund of $79 dollars as they wouldn't make a profit otherwise.

I declined and asked again for a refund and return as per Ebays policy and they hesitantly agreed. However they sent notification saying that they cannot provide a shipping label, even though the seller is required to pay for return shipping and is not replying.

My 2 final worries are that the item was sent from Hong Kong and the seller wants me to return it to the US which concerns me. I also noticed that the paypal name is significantly different to the sellers name on eBay. What worries me most is that after trying to return and searching eBay I found the same item with the exact 100% listing photos from a different seller and a different advertisement.

I would really really appreciate some help with this as I'm just in high schools and simply want my money back and am worried I've been scammed by some 'dodgy seller' from Asia who wants me to send it to the US so they never receive it and I can't be refunded. Thank you!

As the seller is being unhelpful you would be better off opening a dispute.....ebay will tell you where to return the item and when.  You will not be relying on the seller to give you the refund....if he doesn't give it, ebay will.

BTW, if the seller is overseas he cannot give you a return postage label....that is only for sellers located in Australia.

Thanks for the help guys! I was wondering that if I did return it properly to the given address, would the seller somehow be able to deny that they receive the item? I've heard negative things about returning items to sellers and not getting refunded as 'seller hasn't received item'

That is exactly the reason that you should do it through ebay or paypal.....but you must send it with full tracking which you upload to the dispute.   You will not get your refund if it cannot be tracked.
