So here is the latest 'SCAM' many Chinese sellers are now using in their listings to convince you to buy from them as their stock is supposedly located in Australia and you will get the goods quicker.
'AU STOCK' is big and bold in their listing heading.
In fact the item is in China and they use a re-fullfilment service called Equick.cn who consolidate many sellers parcels on a daily basis and ship them to Sydney. Equick then despatch them using Australia Post from their warehouse in Botany.
Around 4-5 days after you make your purchase you finally receive the tracking advice from Australia Post, which makes you think the items are in Australia, but in fact they have not even left China. Around 10-14 days later you finally receive the goods.
This activity is clearly misleading and a breach of eBay's 'misrepresenting item location' rules and needs to be stopped.

Yes. Ebay is like the lifeblood for chinese scammers. When chinese are having trouble scamming they know that there is always Ebay, a place where they can scam all day long and be protected. It's part of ebay's revenue policy to allow for international sellers to sell from another location. All good til you allow the chinese to participate in something that requires honesty, like business of any kind.
This is not a problem for Ebay as the revenue is far more important than doing the right thing. In most cases they just give a warning if anything and these sellers have several accounts.
If your seller is not registered in Australia but the tem locationis it's a 90% chance that this is location misrepresentation and against ebay policy..If the seller provides shipping information a week later than description you can be sure that's whats happening..They will enter a tracking # into ebay order and say it's AusPost. It will be a chinese tracking # that does not even register with Auspost. Your item will be about 2-3 weeks min longer than expected. This is when you report item to ebay and they do very little.
Would you stop it if it was making you multi millions per year for simply making it look legit. No, ebay are doing everything they can to ensure that they get as much money as possible wherever they can avoid any accountability. There are just so many chinese sellers and ebay wants them all whether they scam or not. Scammers pay their fees too.

This thread is over 5 years old but this is still happening; I ordered a product from 'Sydney' and, according to their delivery dates, the item would have been delivered 2 weeks before a party that the item was a present for.
Took 5 weeks to arrive so missed the party, even with COVID a parcel does not take 5 weeks from 'Sydney'.

I've never checked a sellers profile before as I've never had this problem before, and the item specifically said "Item is in Sydney".
Yes I have been on ebay for 15 years, and i've used the 'based in Australia' location search bar often, but this is the first time I've had this problem.

Wow, just been done again.
Checked the seller this time, they said they were based in Sydney and the item was in Sydney. Nope, coming from China again.
