Scammed and can't open a case

I won an item and paid straight away through paypal, only to receive an email from the seller  saying:

"had a problem with a incorrect email address for paypal payments attached to some listings. Unfortunately I can not view the email address attached to listings & can only guess by payment statuses. Your payment is pending in Ebay but not showing in paypal so guess yours is one of them. Please cancel this payment as it will not go through.I have contacted Ebay & Paypal but they are unable to fix as it accrued at listing & Paypal can not issue funds to the correct account as they are unable to verify it.....

I have your Item ready & paypal notifications on my phone so I can post as soon as I see payment."

It ended up being the case that I was able to receive a refund from paypal and pay her directly through bank deposit - and she seemed so understanding and sorry for the 'stuff up' as she said... However that all happened in late Jan and I didn't hear from her after I let her know the amount was transferred. I've sent her a few messages asking what was going on, and then saying I would open a case, and I've still had no response from her!!

I can't leave feedback for her?? And I also can't open a case in the resolution centre because it says I've waited for too long. I'm really frustrated and annoyed and feel as though she shouldn't be allowed to get away with this! On her page there are a now a couple of people who have left negative feedback saying they never received their items and were told of a problem with her email... So I suspect that I'm not the first this has happened to and I won't be the last.

Can I publish her user ID as a warning to other members?

No you can't put her id on this forum. In future do not accept any excuse from any seller for not being able to pay via paypal. It is the only safe way and in a situation like this, should it arise again, cancel the transaction with the seller and report them to eBay.

Hey darl,

Sorry to hear that has happened to you.. but gottabecareful is correct. If ever you buy something from eBay and the seller has paypal but than all of a sudden is magically not able to use it and ask's you for bank transaction.. just walk away! never put your money into their bank accounts. also always check on their feedback before buying anything 😃

See if you can email ebay and see what can be done about this.... I'm not sure how it may work in your area but once this happend to me from another site and I used bank despoit.. the bank said that if I have proof I emailed the person who sold me the goods but had no response than they may be able to help..

You can report them to Online Fraud but it won't get your money back as there is no protection using bank deposit as you know.

It has nothing to do with eBay; they cannot do anything about you giving the seller gift into their account.  The only thing you can do is to report them to police for fraud.  Or you can message them once more telling them that unless they refund your money within 48 hours you will be reporting them to the police for fraud.  They might refund.

You cannot put the seller's ID here, but you can give us the title of an item they have listed in this moment and we should be able to find them.

You have 60 days to leave FB.

As explained by others you where scammed but it had nothing to do with eBay or Paypal.

You paid by Paypal which is one of safe payment methods you can use and a seller has to accept if they state it in their listing.

Then you choose to cancel the safe payment method and pay by an unsafe method because the seller claims a fault with their PP account.

What you should have done is notify the seller that they can either claim the payment, reclaim the money and tell them to fix the PP account,(you could then have repaid them once the account was fixed).

In this instance you just wouldn't have heard from them again,(except for them trying to get you to pay by bank deposit),X-(

Never, ever pay a stranger by bank deposit unless you can afford to lose that money.

A number of these accounts are hijacked accounts that list high priced items for prices that are way below their true value,(which should be a warning to buyers to start with).

If it looks to good to be true,it generally is).X-(

thanks for everyone's advice and help!

I'll message her about the fraud and refund and see what happens, but I'm considering the money gone I doubt I'll ever get it back..just lucky it wasn't a huge amount! It's more the principle of it that is upsetting...I'm just shocked people can seem so "nice" and "genuine" over messages but are just out to rip you off... I've learnt my lesson though and will never do bank deposits under any circumstances!!

She currently hasn't got anything for sale but has a feedback score of 135 and 94.3% positive feedback so obviously she HAS been trustworthy in the past...just strange. Anyways, thanks again for the help!

hm... request her details.... you can then call her up and ask what is going on...

Just curious...

where is the seller?

Late Jan was when we had flooding up North...

I actually made 2 sales on Australia Day but just before those sales I had a tornado rip through where i live... not only did we not have power for six days but I could not get out of town for five of those days.

Just a thought as she did have good feedback up until recently.

thanks for the suggestion! I'm not sure how comfortable I am with ringing her - I've sent her a couple of messages today so will see if she responds. And it says she lives in VIC
