Second chance offer expired in less than 6 hours?

I recently placed an automated snipe auction on some DVDs (seller has zero feedback but pick up was option). The auction ended around 2pm while I was at work. I'm checking my e-bay messages at 6.30pm i see there is a second chance offer. I decide to accept it but I'm informed the offer has expired. **bleep**? Firstly, why is there a second chance offer within 4 hours of the auction ending and secondly why has it expired so soon? It is also somewhat ironic that the seller stated in the item description "No time wasters please". Well I feel i've wasted my time placing bids on this item.

They may have had a second set or the winner did not want them after winning OR they bid on their own items to get a higher price so they then sent a 2nd chance offer.

After sending it if they cancelled the 2nd chance offer it will show as expired.

A lot of new sellers misunderstand what the second chance offer is for. If any auction receives bids from more than one member, once it has ended they get a notice on their selling page saying "X item(s) I sold are eligible for a second chance offer", and more than a few sellers have been under the impression that it means they get a second chance at auctioning their item for a higher price.

It's possible your seller thought the same thing, then cancelled when they realised what it actually does.

OK. I see how that could have arisen.

It couldn't have anything to do with your other thread could it?
