I had made a bid on an item which started at 0.99 mine was the only bid. My bid had been the winning bed for 3 days. With 24 hours to go seller has ended the sale.
They have then relisted the item with a starting bid of $150.
I sent the seller a msg asking why they ended it with 24 hours to go and their response was:
because i am able to end the item, that is why, there were outstanding circumstances why this item was ended.
Can the seller do this just because they are greedy?
Do I have any rights in this situation?
Thanks

You have no rights.
If it really is worth $150 then why would the seller want to sell it for .99c. They were obviously expecting it to be more popular or got cold feet about the auction, even though experienced bidders don't bid until the end in any event.
The item is the sellers to do with as they wish until it is sold, and that is exactly how it should be. Placing a bid gives you no claim or ownership rights.

Maclore, its typical greedy bidder. They should not be allowed to do that but there is nothing stopping the unscrupulous seller from doing it. Sounds like the outstanding circumstance is "THEY ARE GREEDY" and they think it is worth more than people were prepared to bid.
The auction opening price should be a binding contract. Now, if you were to win and then you had "outstanding circumstances" as not to pay they would be calling you all the names under sun.

OMG, the worst case of pure, unadulterated greed I have ever seen!
Who's greedy - (had to think here) - seller of course!
Has it slipped their mind that they are listing on Ebay - they are supposed to give away their stuff for nothing, that any notion of actually making any money is futile and deemed as being a bad sport?
But lucky for you - item is relisted so you can still bid - or not (maybe).
Hope you win, - with a bit of luck you will be the only bidder again.
PS: Still sitting here gobsmacked as to where did they find the nerve to do what they did!
Cheers, JHS

Sellers cancel for a variety of reasons. The seller of the item you had bid on may have thought that it would get up over $150 and did panic when it hadn't attracted early bids. It may also have had few watchers and/or page views which may have reinforced to the seller the need to cancel and relist.
Cancelling when it was at 99 cents does not mean they are greedy. The argument could be made that someone wanting to enforce a sale of a $150 item for 99 cents or some other low amount is being greedy.
You have the right to avoid that seller if you do not like their selling practices.

If the seller didn't want to sell it for 99 cents, then they should have listed it for the price they were willing to sell it.
The seller can cancel a bid for any reason they want, they shouldn't, but they can..
You could try reporting them for seller non performance

Just how do you report a non existent item :^O
Why on earth would you contact the seller to ask why chose to do exactly as they liked with their own item?
They were probably a newish seller who took ebay's insane advice to new sellers to list for 99c and quite rightly ended it when they realised they would have to sell it for a lot less than expected if interest did not increase before the end.
It is none of your business why they chose to end it, ebay allow sellers to end a listing at any time up to the last 12 hours and after that they can still cancel bids.

I would think perhaps the seller is new, perhaps they had a BIN listed thinking it was a reserve, then realised the mistake they made. Who I ask you, in their right mind, would think they could get that item for under $100, and for .99c..c'mon, it's not brain surgery. Sometimes people make mistakes, and yes they should research how to do things more thoroughly, but I assume that is what the seller did and fixed his error before anyone was hurt by or any trouble caused. Greedy Seller - bsal - get over yourself

If the seller was not prepared to sell the item for his/her listing price then why start it at that price? If as stated they may have had a few watchers at that price then realised "hey i might get more for this' then YES that is what i call greed. You may well be right in your assumption kb12 but then the assumption can also be made that they simply thought they could get more for it.
