Seller sold defective productive

I recently purchased a replacement iphone screen. It came with a dead pixel and the seller would not reply to my messages for a week. I opened a case with paypal and the seller replied after that. They agreed to provide me a partial refund which I'd be happy with, however they want me to close the case first because the funds are frozen. I have told them they can agree to my refund request which i sent through paypal but they wont do it.

What should I do?

Don't close the case, that is what they want you to do, then you won't get the refund....guaranteed.

Agree with i-l-m-s 100%.

If you close the case you can't reopen it, game over. The mere fact the seller has asked you to close the case before they will refund is all the indication you need that they are trying to do you wrong.

Yes. They are an overseas company from China.

I havent closed the case yet. They said to me I can close the case and reopen it if they dont refund me, but I know i cant reopen the case once it gets closed.

But im not sure what I should do now. Should I escalate it with paypal?

Yes. You gave them a chance and they tried to screw you. Let Paypal deal with it, and after you've received your refund leave them negative feedback to warn others about them.

Oh, and be sure to inform Paypal of what the seller had advised you to do before they agreed to a refund. Paypal won't look very favourably on their having tried that scam.
