After contacting a seller about freight on an item, he gave me the cost to my place of residence. Happy enough with this I then asked if he had the item in a different colour than the one advertised. His reply was no, and if I gave him all the details of my name, address etc. he would get the item boxed and ready for the couriers, but added "Could you do a direct deposit if I give you my details?" He gave me a mobile number so I rang it and told him I'd much rather pay by Paypal, within eBay, for safety sake.
Consequently bought the item and asked for Tax Invoice with freight included, and got a response that he'd guestimated the freight wrong and had to charge extra because of low profit margins, and eBay and Paypal taking 10%. He gave me the option of cancelling, which I did. I feel that because I didn't take up his offer of a direct deposit, and told him I wanted to use Paypal, he's decided that he'll make the grab for the fees.
Surely this is against the rules of eBay...any opinions as to what I should do about it (if anything)?

Yes it's against ebay's rules and policies. You can report his email/s and include a reason. You are better off because he may have sent nothing to you.

You shouldnt have accepted his request to cancel as you can no longer leave him negative feed back for being a time waster and he will get all his fees back now.
