I am fed up with having to contact clothing sellers to ask the following questions which surely ebay should make essential for listing clothing:
What is the fabric - important to know to get an idea of the way the item will look and if it's easy care
Is the item machine washable - important to know as I dont want ongoing drycleaning expenses
What does "S" (or M or L) mean - If it's only listed as size S, what does that mean? I will need chest measurements etc to know if this will fit me. One brands size S is anothers size L and vice versa
What is the chest measurement - size 10 varies from label to label. I dont want to assume that this will fit me and then I can't get it done up. I can pretty much tell how long it is, but I need to know if I will be able to fit into it.
Measurements, the fabric and some basic measurements should be mandatory for listing clothing. Also, it would help if sellers were prompted by you to check that the item has no flaws - 'have you check the item over for any defects such as marks, stains or holes' should be asked before the item goes 'live' on your site.
Wake up ebay. Fix this. You're making shopping on ebay hard and risky otherwise.

Hi Ginger.
Not sure this is up to eBay.
The seller should make sure all of those things are contained clearly in the description of an item of clothing.
Read the descriptions carefully - then if you have questions not answered in the listing - email the seller & ask.
Easier than buying - paying - returning - & all the enormous hassle that causes.
As a buyer - when in doubt or don't get satisfactory answers - I do not buy.

Ebay make it very easy for sellers to add all that info and more. I never waste my time asking those type of questions, if the seller is too lazy to list properly I hit the back button and find a seller who takes the time and effort to add the information. It doesn't take long especially if you use a template with a chart so you only have to add the actual measurements and the item specifics take seconds.
It says in this book I am reading that by 2065 80% of women will be overweight.
See what a trendsetter I am?

Well size small to me is a 10, medium size 12 etc. I think you only have to look at the picture of the garment to make a fairly good decision, and I do make quite a few clothing purchases on ebay. Most sellers will have a brand name on their clothing for sale. I have always found seller gives adequate description for their items.I just find buying shoes could be slightly a guessing game.
Yeah tend to agree. However a size S, could be fitted or a more loose fit. Sizes also can vary anyway. Havent you noticed how one brands size 10 is another brands size 8? Etc.
Do you buy clothes just based on pictures in a shop, or do you have the opportunity to actually try on or hold up the item to see if it would fit you? A picture doesnt give an accurate clue as to whether the item will fit! Some sellers even pin clothes at the side (that are a large size) to make them look more attractive on the size 8 mannequin that they are photographing them on.

Yes I know they make it easy for them to add that information. My point though is that it shouldnt be 'easy' it should be compulsory!!
And as for not wasting my time asking, well the problem is ebay is not like a real store. Sometimes you see what you like and don't know if there will another one listed - ever, or in the same size or colour etc. So, if you like it and are interested in buying it you feel compelled to need to find out if it's suitable which is where the time wasting questions come in, hence my original post.
I agree it doesnt take long etc...but my point is that most sellers don't bother - I'm saying ebay should make it compulsory!
