What exactly does this message I get from eBay: "Item is marked as posted?

The message 'This item has been marked as posted" is meaningless even if coming from a seller. It does not mean the item is posted or that it has even moved one inch closer to me from its location. If this message originates from eBay itself (and I believe it does), where is the information that an item has been "marked" coming from? If it is in fact the seller, maybe I should be getting this communication directly from the seller. I get this message but nothing else (from sellers) and I have to believe it is sent by eBay to promote better feedback ratings for seller communication where in fact in many cases, there is none at all.

A reply from eBay personnel would be very enlightening.

With regards to payment from buyers, we open unpaid item disputes. Many reasonable sellers also stipulate days payment is due.

So that in mind,

A) sellers stipulate handing time
b) sellers stipulate how long is given for payment

Also, many sellers go on vacation and a message is left that there will be a delay in shipping items. As also Dave mentioned, some sellers live in remote areas - don't they deserve to also participate in eCommerce?

What is so hard to understand about this - unless buyers are not reading listings carefully. Maybe a month handling time may seem unrealistic (and I have yet to see that long) but I have seen delay in handling by 2 weeks due to sellers being on vacation.

I might also add, what about natural disasters such as flooding like the most recent ones where there was no access to post offices due to main roads being inaccessible due to flooding and sellers made a note about this in your listings. I had to personally refund many transactions due to delay in items getting access to those areas and subsequent backlog of mail.

And no I dont read the sellers handling time. If an item i bought has been posted from within Australia i give it a max of 21 days to arrive before i open a dispute. Fingers crossed, never had to yet.


So you apply your own standards, regardless of what the seller stipulates. I can't understand why I ever put you on my BBL.

How is this "Applying my own standards"? As a buyer, ebay's parameters are i have UPTO 45 days to open a dispute. It does not stipulate it has be ON the 45th day. It is not until after the 45th day that a dispute can be escalated to a claim.

It's applying your own standards in that you determine what is an acceptable handling time by the seller. Your words. Nothing to do with transit times

Where does it say that you cannot escalate a dispute to a claim until after the 45th day?

I have opened a dispute, escalated and had my money back in less than the 45 days.

 

You can actually open a dispute as soon as you have paid, but in that case you will probably find that the system will not accept immediate escalation.  If you have waited a week or so before opening a dispute I have found that you can escalate immediately.  In the case of ebay cancelling a listing or deregistering a seller it is possible to open and escalate the dispute at the same time, sometimes within minutes/hours of paying for the item.
