Hi all.
I recently bought a few classic jazz records and a new record player from ebay to play them. It was only a cheap player but it seemed to do the job.
However I found out that the rubber points on the turntable that the record rests on actually sticks to the record and removes a coating from the record, damaging the record and creating added noise during playback. I messaged the seller but all he is offering is a refund for the record itself. Is there anything I can do, to make the seller take some responsibility?
I've attached some photos to explain the problem.

To be honest, I doubt it, but I won't say one way or the other as my knowledge of rights to compensation for consequential loss (which is what this would be) is very limited.
However, it looks to me like the player requires a slipmat, which would have provided a safer surface for your records.

Thanks for the quick response.
I doubt I'll get a satisfactory solution.. the seller certainly doesn't think it's his fault.

Did you buy the records and the player from the same seller? If, yes, were they a single purchase? ie Were the records AND the record player in the same listing?
If not, I suspect you will be hard pressed to win a dispute.

As pointed out,the slipmat is missing,(it should have a round rubber mat with grooves or a plastic cover that raises
the record clear of those points).
Those points are what holds the cover in place to stop it slipping,(newer players seem to have a raised plastic cover
"locks" into place via those points).
Maybe ask the seller whether they still have it?
