When is item actually posted? Advice from sellers please.

I purcahsed item on 8th July and paid by paypal same day.  (Item won at much much lower price than I had expected).  Sellers stated delivery was 4-9 bus days from cleared payment, estimated delivery 12-19 July.  Heard nothing from seller until 16th July when they provided tracking number and 'item posted' icon was marked.  Via Australia Post tracking it is showing as 'manifested' on 16th July and nothing further since that date.  Is it correct that 'manifested' does not necessrily mean that the goods have passed from seller to Australia Post yet, and may in fact still be in the possession of the seller.  I have purchased many items recently and generally the tracking status only remains as 'manifested' for 1 to 2 days at most.  Just wanted to get a clearer understanding before I contacted the seller directly. Advice from sellers would be helpful.  Many thanks.

Manifested comes up when I print the click and send label, tracking starts when and if AP actually scans it, that may not happen (if it was dropped in a post box)  until the item gets to the distribution centre at your end

So it can say manifested for the whole journey

It does seem a bit slow, but the seller may be in a remote area and only get to a PO a couple of times a week. I'd wait till the end of the week and then try making contact with the seller if it hasn't arrived.

I did once have an item (that was urgent) take a whole month to go about 40km. Needless to say, the buyer was pretty annoyed and rightly so. But it just goes to show what can happen after it leaves a sellers hands.

Thanks for reply.  I understand what you are saying and it is as I thought.  However on this occasion my gut is telling me that goods have probably not left seller yet as I would have received by now if sent on 16th or 17th and maybe even if they were sent on the 18th (item from Syd to Melb).  Again thanks for your response.

Thanks for your reply.  I understand what you say about hiccups with Aust Post however the seller has been very slow here.  Their terms stated postage within 3 days of payment, yet it took 6 business days if goods were actually sent on the 16th.  Item coming from Sydney to Melbourne and should definitely have arrived here by now if posted when seller advised.  I will contact seller directly for further clarification.  Thanks again for your response.
