Who pays for return postage for a "not as descibed item"

Is there a law in Australia that covers this.?

And would it apply to Ebay , PayPal or credit card , and would it cover purchases in Australia and overseas.

Best regards.

First do the Ebay case (there is no reason you won't succeed)

Secondly do a Paypal case, but only if the first one fails for some reason.

Third would be your credit card if that's how you funded the purchase.

Whether it is an Australian seller or an overseas seller, if the buyer receives a product that is really not as described, and can provide sufficient evidence. Paying for return postage is what all responsible buyers should do.

Hi , one phone call to there help line fixed the problem.

Full refund and no return postage costs.

I'm pleased with the result , but still have no definitive answer as whether i have an obligation under their policies to pay return postage on a not as described item.

I assume i must be a valued customer.

Best regards.

@2611geoff

Iโ€™m glad you were able to get the refund issue sorted out.

To answer your question, I suggest you read the eBay Help page on eBayโ€™s Money Back Guarantee policy. It is clearly stated that the seller is responsible for return postage cost if the item is not as described.

You should never be out of pocket if you receive an item that is INAD/SNAD. (Item Not As Described/Significantly Not As Described)

Hi Countess , should i curtsy.

Thanks for the reply.

Prior to posting the question i had received a PayPal (automated robot email) decline and was told i had to pay for return postage.

That confused me because in the past i understood that it was the sellers responsibility , for both local and international.

The phone call completely reversed the situation and the  money was immediately credited to my PayPal account.

Hope we have all learnt something from this.

I have.

Two claims, in as many days , both fake components.

Robot says no  , phone call yes.

Best regards

It looks as though you opened a dispute in Paypal's Resolution Centre rather than through eBay's MBG.

With the MBG the return postage is the seller's responsibility, but with Paypal the buyer pays it UNLESS they have signed up for Paypal's "limited return postage offer"

Hi , thanks for your input.

This is what PayPal emailed me in response to a claim for a full refund.

"Seller has agreed to issue a full refund once you return the item(s) associated with this transaction."

"To receive the refund, you'll need to initiate the return shipment and upload the tracking information in the Resolution Centre before 24 April 2022. We suggest you retain a copy of the shipping label to verify the address of the recipient. If needed, we may ask you to provide this document later".

That's a definite statement -----buyer pays , no ifs or buts.

Within minutes on the phone with PayPal the full refund was issued.

Good result for me  , but why the complete reversal.

PayPal must be a politician. ๐Ÿ™‚
