Why are Item Numbers so well hidden nowadays? Really have to dig deep to find this basic important

They should have it at the top with the contact (which I think is at the bottom of a listing). I have seen it a million times but it is still hard to find, like the salt in the cupboard. I usually just copy the item number out of the "explorer bar", I think that it is what it is called, if I need it.

The OP's question was ... "Why are item numbers so well hidden ?"
.
So much advice on how to find them, suggests that they must be well hidden
.
So ..... Why are the numbers so well hidden ?

The item number is in the URL of every listing you look at.
If you have clicked on a listing, and can't find it any other way, just look there. It generally can't be obscured by anything, either.
I took the liberty of highlighting the item number in this URL to demonstrate.

I was thinking the same.
A couple of times I have found myself searching around, trying to find the item number.
Admittedly, I did find them eventually, but I am sure it used to be easier.
I've been on ebay for years now, as a seller over a decade ago before paypal, and as a buyer in more recent years. But when I read these pages, I realise I have nowhere near the knowledge or expertise of a lot of the other posters.
I find I am slowly learning more things as I read in here, but if I sometimes have trouble with things after all these years, then probably a lot of other buyers do, too.
