Fellow members cannot say why
Who is sending you the messages? (automated eBay messages, or the seller themself?)
Are the actual messages or the notification under the 'bell'
Have you been in contact with the seller to make sure your payment actually went through?
????

How did you pay?
If you used paypal the item will automatically be marked as paid for.
If you have used bank deposit you are at the mercy of the seller's honesty as ebay has no record of payment being sent.....and you have no buyer protection.

If it was a bank deposit or cash pick up, the seller has to mark it as being paid

I think you mean an honest seller has to mark it as being paid.
Who is going to police the seller's honesty in this situation?

I didn't say it would be policed. Yes the op is reliant on the seller being honest
