Hi there,
I wanted to let a seller know I hadn't received my item and it goes straight to opening a case against them. I don't think it helps relations with seller and buyer as I had one opened against me. It leaves a very sour note. I don't know why Ebay do that and would like to know why. Just wonder if anyone can help.
Kindest regards,
Debra.

Go into the listing and select 'Contact member' or your purchase history and in the dropdown to the right of the item select 'Contact Seller'.

These days I try to look past the technical notion of it being a 'case opened against me', because, like you say, a lot of the time the buyer is just trying to communicate with the seller, and eBay have decided to formalise this communication as well as provide limited options for actions by the seller.
It's not necessarily always easy, if I'm honest, because for years the entire concept of disputes and cases were something bad to do to a seller, especially without prior communication, but now they're going hand in hand so I'm trying to look past that, and more look more at just the accompanying message that the buyer has sent if / when determining whether the buyer is being reasonable.

It just adds an urgency so that you know seller will respond, it has no negative affect on them unless escalated. Similar to opening an unpaid item dispute its just like an offical reminder.
Without going down this path a buyer may be sucked into doing the whole correspondence via contact member and run out of time.

After hitting contact seller in the dropdown, when all the options come up, I select the one along the lines of "ask about using my item or I want to ask the seller a question". No case opens with that option.
