Why does an items cost change to a higher amount, no matter which size etc you choose.

The amount shown in the the listing is $5.75, but when you choose a size/ color, it increases to $13.78. regardless of any combination. I would call this deceitful marketing. See item #251503005830 by seller  huayouhua10fv, you may find more items from them do the same.

Either that, or quite possibly there are no grey 41s available at all.

I can't imagine grey being an unpopular colour in mens shoes but maybe the size is unpopular?

4 of 6 sales from that listing were for the gray 41's, so I guess at less than half the price, a few compromises are being made. 😄

I don't think this is too bad, annoying, but at least there is an item being advertised at a certain price available at that price. One of my biggest peeves with variation listings is when sellers include a variation with 0 stock just so they can keyword spam the title without penalty (eg I wanted a shop display in white, and found tons of listings when I searched for it, but a whole heap had it as an out of stock variation, had never sold any white, and after continuing the search for a few months, found that they never got any in stock,  but they kept popping up because white was in the title >_> ).

Having closely studied that seller's men's shoe listings I'm not surprised that those particular grey 41s are selling like hot cakes, as there are 3 separate identical listings for exactly the same shoe, but at wildly differing prices. One listing has them at A$13.71, the second at A$20.98, while the third is A$29.63 so I can see why the grey 41s at A$5.78 are so popular. I'd buy a pair myself if I thought I could squeeze into a pair of AU/UK size 7.5 shoes, but I take AU size 10 and I don't know too many men whose feet would be quite that small.
