With hidden bidders, how can you tell if it's one bidder or several?

I wonder how, with other bidders being hidden, you can tell if you are competing with one other, or several different bidders?

It's not hard to tell when all the camouflaged user IDs and feedback scores are different.

Although on a private listing, there is no differentiation between the bids and there's no way to tell which bids were made by which bidder, if you go into the bid history, at the top will be a note regarding how many bidders are participating in the auction.
