I can't be the only one who feels like the global shipping program is wildly expensive. Shipping from the states has always been expensive but it's starting to get ridiculous. If the seller doesn't enter the exact size abd weight small overages result in massive increases in cost. More than one I've ordered identical small items, done costing $25 more than the other for no explicable reason.
A small camera lens adapter in a container the size of 4 matchboxes and around 100grams cost me $45usd. It was shipped by the GSP through Fedex and the cheek of these people...after about a week last Monday morning the tracking said it was at adelaide airport but the estimated delivery date was Friday 6pm. Assuming the Friday delivery was a glitch I rang up to ask if I cloud pick it up since I would be nearby anyway. They were helpful and said I could. As I was leaving I asked about the Friday delivery, the guy behind the desk said that yes even though it was here and ready they were going to hold it for 4 days before delivery because it was a budget service!
In addition to all that when you search for things, particularly from the US you get the current item price plus the shipping price underneath only to find when you go into the items actual page that the estimated price is actually much much more.
I wish they would kill this GSP or at least make it easier for US sellers to also offer regular first class and priority shipping because it's starting to get crazy.
I'd be curious to hear all of your stories, I'm surei can't be the only one.

Hi cokeking1907 , Sorry to hear of your issue. Not fair! OK, the short of it is, is that it is a scam!. It's an arrogantly, rudely inserted middle man that has blown the cost of postage out 4 fold in many cases. It's about as welcome as a rusty nail that has just gone through your foot.
The 2 threads below describe some of my bad experience with this.
My latest experience with the horrid Global Shipping which was hiding under a stone (so to speak)
Global Shipping, the problems are never ending, everyone loses in the long run.

I agree. there are alternative sites to ebay that are even bigger. For books for example i use Abe which is fantastic. i can ship from the UK to Australia for $5 when a similar item by the GSP would cost $50.
sadly ebay must be making a huge profit on shipping but it will be costing business too. i still use ebay but less every day... please Ebay- stop the price gouging on shipping.
Hi jonathd1 , thanks for letting us know your thoughts. Yes exactly! It'a just obscene that people get stung for a $50 when post should be around $5. Mafia style protection racket rates are more easy than GSP when you look at the ratio.
I purchase off Abe Books too but eBay is more convinient. It's just the GSP that is ruining things for many of us.

What 4channel has failed to mention is the fact that if you contact the seller and get them to input the dimensions and weight of the book the postage will drop to a level compatable with USPS.

Hi padi*0409 , but on small items it's still much more expensive than USPS, often 4 times the USPS or GBP postage. And if a buyer bids on and wins items from a seller, they pay 3 times more than a single item. So someone s laughing
their way, all the way to the bank at our expense. And they .. ... .. could .. .. .. not .. .... .. . give .. .. .. one .. .. stuff .. .. .. about .. ... . us!!!!

I found a very simple solution,(I stopped buying from anyone that uses the GSP),
It was so good of eBay to state: Customs services and international tracking provided for any listing that's
posted via the GSP,(so easy to just scroll past similar to the listings that state a low and a high price),

I hanen't sold any thing on ebay for nearly 3 years, I used to sell things that I din't want and buy collectibles (oil-petrol) items from the U.S. and England, postage/shipping price was got, I just can not believe the ripoff on postage these days, I just bout one item from the U.S and it will be last one, never again, I even stopped looking at the U.S. site because of the postage/shipping.
Why do I have to GST (VAT) twice, ebay charge me GST on anything I receive, postage-handling-item, they I take the parcel to the post office and again I am charged GST, so I am paying more then 20% GST on postage when in Australia the GST is only 10%, isn't there anyone out there that can do something about this highway rrrr, maybe we should have enough guts to stop using ebay all over the world , even if it's done for a week no listing no buying, we keep paying they keep charging,no worries,
Looks like the sooner I get rid of my junk the better.

The GST is 10%.
If you have paid the 10% GST on an item being imported, why do you have to take it to the post office and pay again?

I wonder if they are buying to resell and therefore GST on postage when they purchase and GST on postage to the buyer once they sell it ..

That is quite possible but we will never know unless the member comes back and enlightens us.
