hello,
I have just won an item online but the seller does not seem really trustworthy and does not have a lot of feedback. if i pay with paypal will it be easy for me to get my money back in case something goes wrong? do i simply open a case or do i need to provide any other evidence?
thanks in advance

If the item does not arrive after a reasonable time then you can open a dispute for item not received then escalate to a claim to get your money back.
If the item arrives and it is not as described then open a dispute for item not as described and escalate to a claim and paypal will advise of the address to return it too via trackable post at your cost to get your refund.
remember though that you only have 45 days too dispute a purchase, once that time passes then you can not open a dispute.
No matter how nice and helpful a seller sounds NEVER let that 45 days pass.

If it's the Sass and Bide dress, the seller only has one feedback as a seller, and that could well have been a neg.
They either have two of your dresses, or they have no intention of selling it to you, as they have relisted.
I would not pay without some sort of confirmation from the seller. If they open an unpaid item dispute, refer eBay to any messages they send (making sure you only communicate through eBay messages) and that should get any strike deleted.
They may or may not know about mutual cancellations, but they are a new seller so if it doesn't end up costing you money, you might go a bit easy on them.

thanks for the reply. yes actually it is about that dress. the seller relisted it as she thought that i would not pay but then ended the listing as I said that i would pay for the item. if i do pay for the item and i dont receive it is it simple to get my money back?

As long as you pay with paypal and if the item does not arrive then as stated open a dispute for item not received and escalate to a claim and you will get your money back so the answer is yes it is easy to get your money back.

pay with paypal
if you do not receive the item, you have 45 days in which to open up a claim with PayPal for Item Not received.
PayPal will contact the seller and ask them to prove that they have posted it. They will need to show tracking and proof that they lodged it with Australian Post. If they cannot do that within 10 days, PayPal will refund your money. If they can provide all that, then it is not the seller's fault, it is the postal carriers.
