I have inadvertantly commited to buy a item twice how do I retract that first commit to buy?

The only way to do this is to contact the seller and explain to them what has happened and they MAY release you from your committment and obligation to purchase,
If they won't, unfortunately, you will have to pay.

You can do as crikey asks and probably the seller will agree.
But if they won't, no one can actually force you to pay.
You can pay for one item, and not pay for the other.
The seller may then put in an unpaid items dispute, or they may not.
The worst that can happen to you is you will get one strike against your name.
They won't kick you off ebay though.
Just make sure you don't have it happen again in the next 12 months, or else you might find yourself on some people's banned list if you get 2 strikes.
