i jsut purchased an item that stated free postage, now says it is $129

That says 'Freight' in the postage section, not 'Free'.

If you do not wish to purchase the mower with the $129 delivery charge, I suggest you politely email the seller and request a mutual cancellation of the transaction.

uh huh, and if th seller declines your request, which is his prerogative, then you will need to pay as you have entered into a legally binding contract and "I didn't read/understand the terms of the contract that I was entering into" is not a legal defence.

In your case, the seller is in the wrong and officially, they are not allowed to add extra, undisclosed costs after the sale. You would be within your rights to refuse to pay the extra costs, but there is no practical way to force the seller to honour the original sale amount, and unfortunately if you don't pay, they would be able to open a UPI dispute.

If that does happen and you get a strike, you can appeal it and eBay will almost surely overturn it as you can show the seller added postage after the sale (a UPI dispute can also rule out the option to leave feedback).

If you can work it out with the seller, a mutual agreement is another option to cancel the transaction, which would not result in a strike and feedback remains an option for both parties.
