Your protection is in using paypal to pay.

If the item is certified to be a fake then you can get a refund from paypal.

Yes lyndal, but does paypal refund you the cost of paying the jeweller for the valuation, that is not a free service.

They don't need to. All they do is refund your payment.

But why would you keep buying from the same sellers that are sending fake items? Eleven items from 4 sellers are fakes?  I would have stopped at the first one and not bought from that seller again.

I must lead a charmed life....I have bought a number of pieces of jewellery with precious stones and never had a fake.  For the most part the pieces have been valued at double or more than what I paid.

As far as gold and silver jewellery goes....get yourself an Acid testing kit.  They are under $20.  Do the test yourself and if anything is suspect then you can take it to the jeweler and get a letter to say it is fake.  It will cut down on the number of valuations you have to pay for.

Buy from top rated sellers or power sellers who have the commitment to do the right thing

You have to be kidding, there are more sellers of cheap tat masquerading as genuine jewellery  who have TRS and PS status because the vast majority of buyers know they are buying cheap tat so give them great feedback, the few naive newbies who think they are getting a solid gold ring with a genuine diamond for ten bucks may leave them a neg but it is a drop in the ocean when they are selling thousands of items a week.

No way would I ever buy something like a Rolex watch or an LV back on ebay or any other auction site, it is just asking to have to waste time and effort to get your money back.

Funny you mentioned about the rolex needing a new battery, lately i have been studying the watch section, have brought a few cheapy watches from china, but i have also noticed that there are soooo many expensive watches up for auction that just happen to need a new battery for it to work.

I was watching a watch the other day starting price was $100 and it came with no papers or certificates or box, on the photo it clearly said it was a carerra and it had the Tag Heuer logo above Carerra pixilated out. It made no mention of being a Tag Heuer and i even emailed the seller asking if it was a replica watch, but didnt receive a reply. The final price it sold for was about $600. So i am guessing there will be someone out there that will be upset as theses watches sell for around the $3500 mark .

But i have just brought a Tag Heuer from ebay yesterday, hopefully it will be here tomorrow and i sort of have every faith it is an original ( fingers crossed ) and it doesnt need a new battery lol

What is authentic?? I could list a 'rare bank note' - meaning to me that any paper money I have left before my next payday is RARE indeed :^O

Many "expensive" watches lay in a draw, then owner decides to sell. They need a new battery. Scammers (many Asian countries) have realized this is a good way to appear genuine.

Ha... had a feeling it was jewelery. If it's too good to be true... it usually isn't true.
