refund on damage from USA

received an antique - severely damaged in transit. Seller has offered a partial refund being the purchase price of the item only. The post was USPS First Class International Mail - postage alone cost me $112.48 AUD. She wont refund that because she says she cant claim that back - is that so?

Lyndal it's a hell of a lot higher than that. I've priced a few things at $75+ usd and that's only a 3-4kg parcel.

Ruth is talking about USPS First Class International Parcel Post which has a weight limit of 4 pounds, not kg as you are talking about.

The weightiest parcel with maximum dimensions sent to Australia with that service is about US$50 plus any tracking and signature if added.  That is nowhere near the $112 mentioned in the OP.

The seller would have had to use one of the high priced Priority USPS services to be able to legitimately spend $112 on postage.

The weight you are talking about could not be sent by USPS First Class.....the 4 kilos you are talking about is nearly 9 pounds so would have to be sent by a Premium service which is nearly as expensive as the GSP if not more expensive.

Sorry when you said the most it would cost was $50 I didn't realise it was only for small weight items.

I've found a few times the usps rate for some 7 pound items higher by $25 than the GSP price. Annoyingly in those cases the GSP disappeared during the listing even with bids active and I ended up being charged more postage.

Was that before or after your meltdowns over the high rates of GSP and your declaration that you'd never buy from sellers using it ever again?
