stupid eBay decisions making it better for my buying

I'm just wondering if anyone else is finding that the recent decisions eBay has made has reduced the competition for auctions so much that it is now possible to buy items without anyone else bidding against you. I haven't had so much success buying for the listed prices since first buying in 2003

Thank you for the laugh. I agree entirely with your sentiments.

Well eBay have lost me for the time being as a seller but they will have to do something very drastically detrimental to buyers for them to lose me completely.

All the fees are what is a turn off for a casual seller.

Recently my sister and I have returned to ebay in order to clear a few things from what was the family home. We used to sell on ebay a decade back and sis was shocked at how much higher the fees are now. And that was with us not using paypal-pick up only.

In fact we were disappointed in that one cast iron garden seat we sold for $35 on ebay, we ended up getting 3 people on gumtree offering to pick it up immediately. Because it had a bid on ebay we had to leave it but unfortunately it had no higher ebay offers so we were up for fees when we could have been home free.

That's the way it goes but it is the reason we are trying gumtree first now for things, before we transfer to ebay if not successful.

I actually have not bought a lot on ebay lately either.  I couldn't really say why, except there are a lot of other online buying sites now so maybe things are more spread out.

Ebay still has a place but I hope the little sellers don't all disappear as one major turnoff for me has been the deluge of ads from China that seem to take precedence over every other product. Not that Chinese items can't be good value, I have had some good buying experiences from there, but it is a pain to always have to go back and tick Aust only to try to filter so many cheap ads out.

Gummtree is different that way but then again, you are limited to pick up areas.

The fees, aren't my issue, one must pay fir everything. What has stopped my selling is the defect system and the returns policy. I have never had a negative feedback it had to accept a return but Australia post lost an item I sent last year. I intend changing my method of selling to the swap meets and fairs now. I already have an ABN and will just use it to have a little holiday and hopefully make a bit of money

I've been doing some bidding of my own from my buying account the last few days. I had a large number of auctions ending whilst I was offline today that I had already bid on. and I intended to do a bit more this evening when I got back online, in order to complete a couple of orders with two of my fav sellers. as payment is almost due from item #1.

And I return to find the my ebay page is 'out to lunch'. Nothing is working on it, I can't see how I got on with the auctions today, and the 100+ others I had saved in my wish list to bid on tonight were gone. The only thing that seemed to be working on it was the 'tell us what you think' link... so I used it, and scored ebay at the lowest level I could, and included the following note with it....

"Are you kidding me? Nothing on the ''my ebay' page is working except for 'tell us what you think' ? ... Okay then...so here is what I think. The morons managing ebay these days need to be sacked, they are clueless over-educated & overpaid fools that know nothing about the real world. Their stupidity & poorly considered policies are destroying this site for good & decent Aussie buyers & sellers. Shame on you."

**bleep** them

I know what you mean, but imagine how much greater your shock would have been if you hadn't been doing everything as pick-up only, and so you discovered only post sale that eBay had also started slugging you with final value fees on postage too. Tbh I don't mind their fees, except on postage which imo is obscene.

I think charging fees on postage is a bit rude.

But that wasn't our main decider on making things pick up only.

Most of our items were larger so they were a no brainer, but a few others could have been posted.

I told my sis that pick up was better- we didn't have to go through the registered or trackable post route and we would be safe from paypal claims.

Not that there is anything wrong with our items but the posts here have put the wind up me.

It is far more relaxing on gumtree, knowing people will eityher see it and say yes or no, but that is the end of it, no feedback & no nasty surprises.

As far as buying goes, not sure why ebay sales would have fallen off, except as I said earlier, there are so many other online selling sites these days.
