Why are several traders allowed to show that thier items are located in Australia when it is clear from their profile that they are located in China - thus making the delivery times much longer? Their items also appear in the 'Australia only' search results.

There are some sellers that live in one place and the items are stored elsewhere. Drop shipping is a big problem for this.
Look at the feedback and see if there is many complaining about postage time and post marked from OS.
If there is an issue with the item and you are advised by paypal to return it to an OS address call them and tell them the item location in the add is Australia so you want an Australian address to return it as it would not be cost effective to return OS AND they are in violation of ebay selling policy for item location misrepresentation

It's not just Chinese sellers.
There is one bookseller whose item location reads - "From the UK, via Airmail to, Australia" which shows the item location as Australia. No amount of reporting changes anything, so it would appear that eBay has several interpretations of what is a policy violation, depending on the number of listings. The more listed (even though an anchor store only attracts fees on sales), the looser the interpretation.
