why do I have two unpaid item claims against me when I contacted the seller at time of purchase

why do i have two unpaid items claims against me when i contacted the seller and explained i couldn't pay for the free postage items because the site said contact seller for postage details. i did this and the seller told me they wouldn't send the item to Australia. I assumed the matter was closed and now i am told i have to complete the transactions. i went back again today to pay for these same two items and am still unable to do so because it says the same thing. contact seller for postage details. what is going on. i am fastidious in paying for all items i win straight away. This is a slur on my good character and I am disgusted.

If you've requested an invoice including postage and had no response then you can have the unpaid item strikes removed. Send an email to eBay and they will check your purchase details and any emails to the seller.

Unpaid item cases aren't about the buyer, and the seller has no control over the message ebay sends when one is opened. Personally, as a seller, I would rather they didn't come across as a demand for payment because quite frankly, by the time I open an unpaid item dispute I'm kinda hoping the buyer doesn't pay - I'm certainly not trying to get them to.

What I am trying to do is get my fees credited back in the one way that it is guaranteed to for as long as the item isn't paid for, and I suspect that's the main (if not only) reason many sellers go through the process - that and the fact that UPI disputes have some protection against other issues like malicious feedback (unlike mutual cancellations, which are reliant on a buyer participating /agreeing and can still leave them vulnerable to things like a defect against their account, which will harm them a lot more than a UPI strike will harm you). So, it's much more likely the seller is trying to protect themselves and get their money back than trying to mar your account.

A bit ott isn't it? The seller should obviously have opened the dispute on the grounds of mutual cancellation but if they didn't it is no great biggie. If you do get issued with strikes just ring ebay and ask them to check the emails and they will see that you tried to pay. The strikes will almost certainly be removed and even if they weren't nobody can see you have them. If your good character depends on something as minor as not having an unpaid item strike then I hope your tolerance levels are a bit more relaxed in regard to other people as applying that low criteria I know nobody of good character.

And also a bit sick of the "Contact seller for postage" message. It seems to be quite common place nowdays

That usually means they specifically won't post to your location. IMHO eBay shouldn't be encouraging buyers to message in these circumstances - at any rate, before you do, scan the "Posts to" bit.

See example below from a listing I was looking at where my location is set to the UK, it says the bit about "may not" and asks people to contact the seller for shipping options. But... just a few millimetres below that is information that makes it unnecessary to contact a seller, because the answer is right there; they only ship to Australia:

They told me they woundn't send to Australia so I just assumed they would delete the sale. I will be more careful next time. It has now all been resolved. tks for your time

tks, I have had it resolved now but I was very unhappy when I realised that ebay were saying I hadn't paid, when I had made numerous attempts to pay. tks everyone for your help

How did you come to buy items from someone who wouldn't ship to Australia?

Were you logged onto the Australian Site?

Did the seller's description indicate that they did ship to Australia and then they changed their mind after the sale?
