wonder if any one can help me on this, it is a locket and the only mark i can find is R9, have no idea what that means, is it gold or what?

Possibly 9ct rolled gold

Yes, those locket frames were commonly 9ct rolled gold so in the absence of any other marking I would say that is what it is.
