I'm in the market for a louis vuitton iphone 4 case, has anyone bought one from ebay? one was removed from the listings, i'm assuming ebay took it down because it was a fake?

Your chances of getting one that is not a fake are pretty slim.

If you are determined to buy online then I would use a japanese based seller. The laws in Japan are incredibly tough on fake /replicas, there is no real market for fakes there, its not in their culture.

Its the safest place to buy luxury brand items from on ebay IMO.

Certain things are best purchased offline: "genuine" designer branded things that are new and also things like real (solid) gold and real (solid) silver jewellery (unless its vintage) - you're very likely to get ripped off, even if the seller looks like they are OK, and even if they are based in Australia. Sad but true.
