Any ideas ?

What it is, period, country ?

I think it was my great grandmothers in Denmark.

It has a slight smell of perfume so probably a perfume bottle. About 60 cms.

60 cms?   Unlikely to be a perfume bottle!

Does it have a flat base....will it stand up?

Sorry, 60 mm.

No doesn't have flat base, I think meant to be carried in bag or in earlier years women had special pockets in their dress.

Yes it's a very small glass sealer.

The item has glass inside and is covered in a ceramic or porcelain thick coating with gold like sparkly strands through it.

At 60mm I would say you are right....a perfume bottle.

If the bit of ball chain makes a loop it was probably meant to hang on a belt at the waist....many ladies carried a "tool kit" with scissors, needles. thread etc and I imagine a bottle of perfume would be a good fit.

It was called a chatelaine.

They were in use for many years.....I have a brooch made from a fob that hung on such a chatelaine.....I have a photo from the mid 1800s showing it in it's original setting on a belt.
