This one LOOKS the easiest. A typical colour (I call this teal blue) for a water / lemonade jug, 1950's 1960's - the handle shape suggests Italian or Scandinavian. Usually it would have had 6 glasses in the same colour., and a sympathetic shape. Can I just make out a polished pontil? On the other hand, these retro items have become fashionable again; it could have been made yesterday for one the the large decorator shops, especially if it has a smoothed off base.

Thanks so much for your reply. Yes, 50s 60s lemonade jug makes sense. The pontil is polished, I think. There is a dip in a uniform base and it is beautifully shiny.

imagine trying to actually use it when full, it would be extremely top-heavy with the handle so low. . definitely a 2 handed jug. a triumph of style over function. ๐

Hi Putney ๐ we have quite a lot of jugs here, some designs work far better than others.. maybe it was always intended for decorative use only, to stand alongside the genie bottles and oversized brandy balloons etc, with the glasses as siddieswans said.

In one of my Scandanavian glass reference books there is a similar 24.1cm tall jug with an almost identical handle which is noted as being Swedish. No manufacturer name however. The thickness of the glass of the one in the book appears thinner.
