I have this thing, not sure exactly what, and would be grateful if you could help me identify it.
On the inside, it is marked "HOLLYWOOD E.P.N.S. A1"
I was under the impression it was a napkin ring because of the engraving/pin-striping. The lines are really interesting because they appear to be parallel but it is actually a spiral.
I have only ever seen napkin rings that are round, and this isn't. It had occurred to me that it had been squashed, but it is very even and there are no signs of mechanical damage.
It is badly tarnished but I intend on leaving it as I understand that polishing can diminish value, that is if it is worth selling.
Kind regards
Ashley

I understand too that EPNS is electroplated nickel silver and A1 is the grade.

You are quite right; it is a napkin ring, It is a fairly common pattern and design in the Art Deco period - I would be guessing 1920's, 1930's. I have sold several of this shape which were Australian manufacture. EPNS A1 suggests British or Australian made. I think it would be worth extremely little in this condition; even if it polished up brilliantly (and it does look to be corroded and scratched) I couldn't imagine a value above say $5-7 - sorry.

That's okay, thank you for your help. Since it it worth so little I will probably just polish it and spray with a clear lacquer for display.
Kind regards
