Diana Sporting mug Help with guernseys

Hi all, it's been a while since I have posted here!!

I am hoping that someone will be able to identify the teams that are represented on this Diana Sporting mug.

I know there was a VFL series, were any other States or codes represented?

Were the guernseys meant to represent a current team (at the time)?

The only green with gold vee that I have been able to find is Nortcote in the VFA

S- 26 on the base.

Also, were these cold painted as this one is quite grubby.

Regards ....momma

I was hoping someone more knowledgeable would have come along - with a name like siddieswans I am obviously a new-comer.

I think you have nailed Northcote - looking at the Wikipedia VFA / VFL site the other team might be Sandringham, although the blue around the neck is missing.

suggests that the jumpers were modelled on real teams.(1950's). Although called the VFL series, the mugs would appear to also show VFA teams, as the green and yellow jumper would definitely be Northcote.

I am not an expert but I think they would have been cold painted, as I have seen many Waltzing Matilda and other Diana sports jugs (golf, bowls) with significant paint flaking and loss. I would think it could still be carefully cleaned, if that is your concern.

Hi siddie, I am not receiving emails when there is a response to this thread.

I did look at Sandringham as the black and gold but with the lack of blue and knowing how passionate some supporters are...

well I just left it out.

I have emailed a Melbourne VFL AFL collector for help but haven't had a response yet. He has a website with a Diana mug (Melb vs Carlton)

Funnily enough he has a Diana decanter and cups set depicting South Melbourne. Hoping he may have an idea of how many were in the series.  http://www.grandoldflag.net/pages/what_I_am_chasing.htm#otherstuff

Thanks .......momma

Just found this but as he has only found one WAFL team, it may be another VFA side????

I did look at WAFL and SANFL (formerly SAFL) guernseys

VFA VFL http://www.vflfooty.com/node/9060 At the bottom of this post it shows the 1935 Northcote guernsey with the gold vee extending onto the back.

Hi Paul, it is a long time since I sold this mug. I am fairly sure that I didn't mention any teams when I did sell it even though I went to a lot of effort trying to research the team colours 🙂

I have been told that the Diana sporting mugs also came in Rugby Union colours for when Australia played either World Cup or International Tests. Therefore the green & gold could have been the Aussie team although I don't think the vee would not have been on the back. Regards momma 🙂

I just bought a WAFL Subiaco and Perth Demons Diana mug for my partner for his birthday to add to his Diana mug collection. It’s his first footy mug in the Diana mug series - he loves it. Wish I could take a pic and post it here as it’s divine. I wonder how many others of this series are out there.
