Hi,
I haven't had much interest in coins for a couple of years. Anyway the interest is building again so i started looking at pennies and half pennies and i can't believe how many coins are stupidly way overgraded. For instance i looked at a 1931 penny claimed to be a)unc or unc from memory and to me its a cleaned g)F, The more i looked it didn't seem to get much better. My question is this. Has it gotten worse over the last couple of years or has it always been like this? ken

Worse. Every Tom Dick and Chen is now giving it a go.
And there are more amateurs so if you stick to larger store owners that obviously grade how it's meant to be, you will be much better off.
I have learnt in searching notes n coins to skip over the obvious non-collector, selling coins they were given or the ones thinking they are a collector.
I have also seen items graded UNC when they obviously are not. Many simply don't have a clue.
However there are still the good ones in between and probably a little dearer here than 2-4 years ago.

hi shane, the thing is im confident with my grading ability, what about the newer folks or the begginers who rely on the honesty of the seller?? Its easy enough to say buyer beware but how many newby's will be lost forever to the hobby who were ripped off in their first transaction,, I think your being a bit hard.with that comment..
