You will have noticed that I am unusally excited about something, weeelll we are having babies - baby birds that is.
Last year the OH built and installed the latest model in bird nesting boxes in the two palm trees in the back yard. We had a fair amount of birds inspect them, but until this year none of them took up residence. We now have a pair of Pale Headed Rosellas in one box, and they have two eggs. Yeeeee Haaaar we are gunna be grandparents.
Will keep you posted.
Wilma
Bet you thought we had found a black koala master bowl?

Thats lovely.
One of my sons afew years back came running inside yelling "Murder Murder"
He has blood & goo on his hands.
Opened up his hands & there was a dead very young bird :_|
We had found a nest afew days before with eggs in & we were all very excited about the chicks hatching.
Some other bird or a cat had found the nest & picked open some of the eggs & killed the one that must have hatched first.
Nest was a mess,it was very sad,the nest has never been rebuilt.
Would love to see pict's when they hatch.

There is no doubt about it, the ladies on this forum are just so clever, you can find a picture to suit every occasion. What a lovely shot of a Grandparrot, hopefully that is what I will look like in the near future. Thank you OWL.
We are keeping watch on the nesting boxes, seems the female is spending time in both boxes so we are now not sure if she has laid eggs in them both, surely she is not trying to hatch two lots.
We do have a photo of Dad feeding at his new dinner table, not sure if I can post it or not. Will give it a try on a seperate entry.
Wilma.

Thet are so beautiful. I haven't seen the pale-headed ones before, only the tomato sauce birds when we lived in South Australia. We have 28s (ring neck parrots) here in WA as the equivalent sort of bird.

Wilma, it says incubation takes 19 days, so the hatcing should hapen early next week.
You will have to listen to the extra screechig from the hungry babies. 😮

Hi Erica, Thanks for the information regarding hatching times. I started this thread on August 31, the eggs could have been there a day or so before that, so they should be due to hatch about the 16th. Better start listening.
Actually we are not really sure that there isn't a pair trying out the other box, there seems to be a ?female in there quite often and a male in the trees in the neighbours yard near the fence. We thought it was the nesting pair that was a bit confused, but now we are not so sure.
Yes, that is a nice photo of the parrot feeding, OH knows his way round a camera and how to use it. He takes excellent pictures.

Well, we seem to have some strange goings on in the nesting box. While both the parrots were absent, OH took the opportunity to check the nesting box. It seems we now have 3 eggs and one broken shell.
My thoughts are that maybe the first two eggs were not fertile and she has now laid another two.
Maybe I am not going to be a Grandparrot afterall.
