Is there anyone who might be able to tell me more about this case?
I know its silver and i think it might be French from about turn of the century.
Thanks in advance

Thanks for the clear photos. To me this looks like the Minerva fineness mark, so French, 800-900 standard silver fineness. To me from the fittings I would date it to the 1930's. Also to me the painting on enamel (I am assuming enamel) does not look of great quality - could it be lithographed, or perhaps lithographed with some hand painted details? The second mark next to what I think is the Minerva head is a bit of a poser - it should be a French maker's mark (you would think) but these are as far as I know diamond shaped, not square. I assume the marks on both halves are the same - and there is 99? on the catch. STE-VEL is brand name of the spring fittings that held the ciggies in. If you are thinking of selling it, be aware that the eBay market has been flooded with examples from Europe and the Middle East - those that bring the best prices have attractive scenes (often unclad or pretty ladies), horses, dogs; or simple Art Deco guilloche designs; are very well-painted, and those with clear English hallmarks, or from some known Continental maker are most favoured. Also any damage to the enamel would reduce the value. If you do searches in eBay completed items you will see the (often) ridiculous prices that are asked, and they don't sell. Quality and condition are paramount. Hopefully someone with more knowledge on Continental silver marks may come along.

Thankyou so much for your quick and detailed response, I was not thinking of selling it as it has a bit of sentimental value but I am still keen to know what its worth.
Thanks again

agree with siddi about the 1930s (or even later), those stretchy bands are not found on 1800s cases.
