Pottery Canisters

I am afraid to say I think I am on a roll, until someone can confirm the maker of these for me....

I will put a pic of the base in the next post. There are no makers marks, but I found this

and this

http://www.antiquesreporter.com.au/index.cfm/lot/79929-melrose-ware-set-of-4-pottery-canisters-in-a-pale-blue-glaze-wit/

but can't find any definite ID, Carters also have a set listed as Bakewells, which I know they aren't.

Hopefully someone can tell me for sure

cheers

Rae

It just dawned on me Misslinda, there is one missing - the Sugar, I thought the step down from Flour to Rice was a bit bigger than between the others! The set on Carters is missing the smallest, the Coffee one.

Pottery Canisters

Hi Rae,

Very nice pieces. Any chips or cracks?

When I first started collecting Diana pottery about 12 years ago a collection came onto the market from a deceased Diana worker.

There were about 200 pieces and they ended up in several locations in NSW. I was running round like a headless chicken trying to see as much as I could and buy what I could afford at the time.

I saw a lot and learnt a lot and the provenance was good. So a set of these was amongst the bulk of the collection and they were not stamped but were from Diana.

It seems that when Bakewells closed they auctioned their moulds and Diana got the Koala on the tree with roots and Pates the Koala on the tree with flowers. Bouquet Ware bought a lot of Kookaburras and other things. Diana it seems bought the canisters and produced them in several colours.

So I think that is what you have there but I have never seen a marked one and I have handled quite a lot,

Cheers,

Pip

Hi Pip,

Thanks for that info. So they were originally Bakewells, later made by Diana. that makes more sense than Melrose, given the style of the leaves and gumnuts, and the glaze.

I found a full set of 5 listed on Carters as Bakewells

http://www.carters.com.au/index.cfm/item/31497-bakewells-pottery-set-of-five-graduated-canisters-with-moulded-g/

There are some small chips on the base rim and the rim under the lids, the largest under the Flour canister lid, but none really visible on display and no cracks.

cheers

This set made $452 at auction in 2008 if that is of any interest.

mmmmmmmmmm.. they are blue, they have gumnuts...

come on .. they are HORRID, and missing one. I think you need to box them up and send them as far away as you can (Melbourne would be a good place to hide them).

๐Ÿ˜‰ -- gorgeous and yes, I'm jealous.  Supposed to be de-cluttering and down-sizing, but they are lovely, and yes, I would USE them.
