I have a silver plated coffee pot which I would like to start using. Only problem is that the inside particularly the base has tarnish on it. How can I clean this so that it will not leave any taste or affect the coffee.

Hi, have you tried some white vinegar with some bi-carb soda and letting it sit for a while. You can give that a go. I have also tried other things, such as using Silvo and a Silver cleaning cloth which all work well but all depends on how bad the tarnish is. Good Luck!

I would have thought that what you are seeing could well be accumulated coffee stains / oils from over the years. In addition to white vinegar suggested above you could try filling with hot water and adding
1. dishwasher tablet / scoop of powder
or 2. 1-2 denture cleaning tabs
and leave overnight. Any one of the long-handled brush cleaners available in supermarkets may help loosen the deposits, if you can reach inside. People like Howards Storage have those bendable vase wands too. Then the pot will need a good soak / scrub with baking powder and hot water to remove any cleanser residue. Good luck.

I don't think I'd be using silvo or a silver cloth on the inside of a coffee pot, there'd be chemicals in them.

as siddie says..... DentureTablets clean all sorts of things... and of course safe to use on food utensils too.
pop 1 or 2 in item with hot water and leave for 5+hours

Thanks for all of the great advice. Using aj's method a lot of the junk moved last night, but still some there. I will try the other method tonight and hopefully it will clear. I don't know why, but I have developed a desire to use a decent coffee pot on the table instead of the glass one from the coffee perc. Must be getting old. :^O
