Staffordshire " Disraeli " Dogs

Hi,        I have a pair of Staffordshire dogs that  recently came into my procession. I've done some homework on the net and they are around C 1860.  They sell for quite a bit in the UK but haven't been able to find any info on them as far as Australian sales etc. They have been verified as genuine buy an antique dealer in brisbane who offered me $120 for the pair and the offer went up as i walked out the door . Any tips on the best way to maximise a sales price or any info at all would be good, thanks, ken

I would probably triple the price you were offered while you were walking out the door and if you're happy to try and sell for that amount then start at that price, good luck.

thanks for replying zelly,  a friend of my wife suggested i contact christies or southerbies in the old dart and get some advice from them, he thinks there'd be more interest there,  i only came upon this info a couple of minutes ago, i did track down a christies auction from 2006 where they had sold a fairly heavily restored pair for around 1200 pounds, these are near mint with only some fine split marks along  where the molds were joined and only a small amount, the antique dealer who looked at them all but said they were mint apart from that, once again thanks for replying, ken

prices might be a little down on 2006, as with most things. but if they are real (which i'm sure they are, they look 'right' ) and in as good a condition as you say they should fetch a good price. i think 1200 ponds is a little high now, but you never know.

I said to the wife that we need to find somewhere to put them but she reckons wrap them  in bubblewrap and put the ugly looking things in a good box somewhere, These have alot of sentimental value to me and i like to look at them. They sat on a side table for the last 50 years unwanted and unloved, i believe they were only cleaned once in that time by me a few years ago. It was believed they were fakes as my mother said her aunty that gave them to her perents would have been to tight to buy real ones. These were on there way to vinnies as none of my family wanted the "things" but im glad they waited for me to come and have a look first,,   , ken. PS, i received an email from christies overnight requesting photo's and to fill out a form about them, for a bit of fun i'll do it.  I know they are fairly rare but the info ive obtained is there even rarer as they are undamaged, I havent come across another pair yet that havent had repairs and touch ups.
