vermeil V Gold Plate Silver

Hi, I have asked in "selling" but was instructed to ask you guys who will be able to give me a definative answer.

Questions:

1. Should 9ct Gold Plated Silver Jewellery be listed in Fine Jewellery?

2. Should genuine VERMEIL Gold be listed in Fine Jewellery?

TIA

If my memory serves me right, I think neither. I think it has to go into Costume. There was a post recently on the same topic. It's one of those categories that has a few ???? . No doubt someone more knowledgeable will let you know with certainty.  🙂

To me the distinction between vermeil gold and 9ct gold plated sterling silver jewellery is a bit pernickety. I know the USA has a specific definition of vermeil gold - I suppose if you know your piece fits that specific definition, that's great, but it seems to me that a lot of sellers are now using the term Vermeil Gold to avoid using the term "plated".

Are your items Brand New? If so, I would suggest Fine Jewellery. You will find thousands of listings for gold plated jewellery in that category.

Are they "pre-worn"? If so, I would list them under Vintage, Antique Jewellery..

Are they Antique? If so, I would list them under Antiques - Other. (however that's just me because I would like the free listings - you probably have Free Listings anyway.)

The important thing I would do is to clearly say IN THE TITLE that they are 9ct gold plated ( or whatever carat they are if they are Vermeil Gold). Do make sure PLATED is in the title - so many people only read the title (sadly.) There are a LOT of people who would not have a clue what vermeil gold is - to avoid disappointing them (and creating headaches for yourself) I would make the plating clear in the title. Good luck.
