I got Scammed From a Supplier

I bought an item from this supplier. I go the thing but it was not working. I informed the supplier, and the supplier said they posted a replacement in March 2023. Still, I didn't get the replacement item. I wrote to the supplier and agreed to accept a refund. Then I posted the defective item. Tracking shows it was delivered on 26/04. After that no communication from the supplier. I have sent many emails, but no reply.

You did not follow the timeframe and the other T&Cs of eBay’s Money Back Guarantee. You’re way out of time to open a refund request in eBay.

If it’s within 180 days of your purchase, and you paid through PayPal, you can open a refund request through PayPal.

If you didn’t pay by PayPal, hopefully you at least paid by credit card. If so, and if your card issuer had a timeframe for chargebacks up to 6 months, your last resort would be a chargeback through your bank.

Do NOT open both a PayPal claim and a chargeback claim. If you do, PayPal as l will automatically close your PayPal claim.

In future, do not engage in back and forth communication with a seller and to not believe in “We sent a replacement” false promises. These are designed to waste your time until it’s too late to open an MBG claim. In eBay it’s strictly 30 days from latest EDD (Estimated Delivery Date).

Messages are pointless - just open the correct dispute WITHIN the timeframe of 30 days after receipt and get a refund.

Have you ever read the buyers guide?

Had you bothered, you would have discovered that after opening a dispute for "Not as Described/Defective", the onus would have been on the seller to EITHER send a postage label if they want it back (if they are registered in Aus), or refund you. You are never responsible for return postage for an item that is defective. Now, you have lost your money, the item and even more postage by not understanding how this site works.

Ebay is very black and white and does not support sellers sending a "replacement" as a means to resolve a dispute. They can only assist you if you open a formal case.

You would not have been scammed as you call it had you opened a dispute

there is no point telling other members how you emailed back and forth

The seller is in China and has God awful feedback

If you must buy from someone like that, and the inevitable happens, don’t then play games with them for months

open the dispute

or better yet, don’t support a seller like that in the first place
