Your Kellogs snacks are now going to be made in Thailand......
WORKERS at Kellogg's Charmhaven snack plant will be unemployed next year as the company shuts the factory as part of a global restructure.
With less than two weeks until Christmas, 100 employees were given the news on Tuesday.
They join 550 Candadian Kelloggs employees who were told of the closure on the same day.
The 90 year old factory in London, Ontario (Canada) will close its gates by the end of next year.
The shutdowns are part of Kellogg's global supply chain changes designed to cut costs and boost effiency and come on top of dismal news of the closure of Holden's Australian operations.
Kelloggs will instead expand its Rayong, Thailand cereal and snacks plant which will be fully operational by 2015
The Charmhaven snacks plant produces a veriety of products, including Be Natural, K-time, LCM and Sun Brite brands.
Australia New Zealand managing director Andrew Towle said it would be a phased closure and Kellogg's would work closely with employees to help them through the transition.
"As with any project of this scope and one that impacts people, these are difficult decisions," Mr Towle said.
"We are very mindful of the impact these changes will have - particularly to our employees.
"As our employees and others would expect from Kellogg, we will help those who are impacted through the transition."
The news will send shock waves across the coast, particularly Wyong shire where youth unemployment runs at about 40 per cent and Wyong Council has put a strong emphasis on creating infrastructure to create jobs.

What about today, tommorrow, next month, next year Mr Abbott?
Our policy will encourage business to work innovatively and productively, helping to create one million new jobs the next five years and two million jobs within ten years. This will drive prosperity and a strong economy to provide more job security and ensure sustainable wage increases.

losing count of the broken promises now

For a young person about to leave school looking for work or graduating from Uni now.. a promise of more jobs in 5-10 years is absolutely worthless.
If a newly elected govt can't make changes/improvements in their first term, they should not be making promises at all for 5-10yr timeframes.

Yes, Nero -- saw this news in an international online forum last night
In the responses, many Canadians were desolate as there is almost no other work in the area and once Kellogs closes, they don't know how they'll survive
Other responses stated they would boycott Kellogs overseas-made products on principle and because of heath fears
Not one of the Canadians affected tried to use the news item to vent their political bias, however
Guess Canadians are a step above some Aussies in that regard
