Maradona was the best in the world at his peak; probably better than anybody since Pele. And was booted when found to be a druggie. Nobody has ever claimed he was taking performance enhancing drugs when playing prior to 1994, when he was getting a bit long in the tooth.

Armstrong systematically cheated in order to win his fame. Without the drugs, who knows how successful he would have been.

I think it's a bit rough to compare the two, and not well timed. Armstrong was a serial liar and drug cheat who achieved and accepted many illegal Tour de France victories. Going by the article Maradona punched a goal which was awarded. Many sports persons have done similar things and sometimes in the heat of the moment. But Armstrong did it over and over for years. He knew exactly what he was doing - he was a fake and a fraud. I will continue to remember Maradona for his natural brilliance and all his wonderful achievements.
