NSW police say two teachers, a priest and a former priest have been arrested as part of a global investigation into a Canadian-based child pornography ring.
Six Australian children are among the 386 around the world who have been removed from harm, they say.
More than 340 suspects around the world, including 65 Australians, were arrested during the swoop that was led by Toronto police.
The three-year investigation was announced by Canadian authorities on Thursday night.
The 65 Australians arrested have been charged with 399 offences.
In NSW they include a 42-year-old school teacher arrested at Cowra on July 24 and another 42-year-old Emu Plains teacher arrested on August 7.
A 72-year-old retired Catholic priest was arrested at Lake Haven on the Central Coast on August 20 and a 57-year-old priest was arrested at The Rocks on July 29.
They have all been charged with possessing child abuse material and using a carriage service to access child pornography and remain before the courts.

The Scope of that is just mind-boggling. And the high-profile type of people in trusted positions is just sickening.
Where do they find the children, who supplies them? Are they some other parent's Maddie?

I heard a detailed article on the radio this morning about this. The men ranged from 25 to 72, and included teachers, priests and police officers. The Canadian man payed men in Eastern Europe and elsewhere to film the abuse of these boys. He has made $4 million over a few years. 6 children in Australia have been rescued. It has always been occurring (these rings), but the internet has made it so much easier now.

I do not think the kids were kidnapped; it was the parents/parent/guardian or a relative who would have used them this way. Yes, it is absolutely mindboggling the scope.
But I cannot say it surprises me, over the years I have met number of people who were at some time placed in foster homes, and large proportion of them said that they were abused there. One lady I know well (she used to live next door for years) was placed in foster home because as a 10 years old her father raped her, and the man in the foster family did the same, and she was too frightened of him to say anything.

Yes it has always been occurring, but the internet has helped in it's proliferation and expansion.
Fortunately the internet has also made it easier to trace them.

When the police began to experiment with videotapes in child abuse cases, the first two children filmed had been abused by one, a police officer father, and the other child, her grandfather. It is standard practice now I believe, and usually when the perpetrator sees the videotape, he admits to what he has done, and so what follows is made easier.
