With Sam Mendes confirming he'll be returning to direct the next installment of the James Bond franchise following his success with 2012's Skyfall speculation has once again sparked over Pacific Rim star Idris Elba taking over from Daniel Craig when he leaves the role.
Craig, who has already had three successful turns as 007 is expected to continue the role for the next few movies, but as ever with the legendary role, other actors are already being lined up to replace him, with Luther star Elba tipped as becoming the first black bond. And if he was offered the role it seems the London born actor would snap it up.
"It's not something that I actually hope to come to fruition," he told Digital Spy, "It would be lovely if it did, but it's a rumour. It's actually like the will of a nation type-thing."
Insisting he wasn't trying to win the role before Daniel Craig has given it up, he went on: "I'm not a champion of myself to be James Bond, but there are so many people who say, 'Hey, you'd be a great one. We'd love to see that.' That's a great feeling for me."
"That's such a national treasure for us in England, we love James Bond. To be considered as one of those actors who could play him is great."
Yesterday, Mendes announced that he had re-joined the Bond team for 'Bond 24'. While the hugely popular Daniel Craig is technically contracted to at least two more appearances as the 007, his return has also been confirmed, as has scriptwriter John Logan.

I loved Idris Alba in Luther and I reckon if we're going to depart from a white James Bond, Idris would be an excellent choice!
